8-year-old turns lemons into lemonade fundraiser | News

Palm Harbor, Florida -- Perhaps the most enthusiastic lemonade salesman is an 8-year-old from Palm Harbor who gets excited about the recipe, celebrates every sale, and is more than willing to try the finished product.

"This lemonade is homemade!" Harrison Godwin yells to customers. "We blended the lemons!"

But for Harrison Godwin, selling involves caring.

"Alex, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma," Godwin says.

Alexandra Scott was a little girl from Pennsylvania whose cancer fight helped create Alex's Lemonade Stand, a national foundation. Harrison never knew her, but he wanted to help.

So, as part of a community service project for his 3rd grade class at Cypress Woods Elementary School, he decided to set up a cupcake and lemonade stand with a helping hand from his mom. All the money benefits pediatric cancer research.

"My original goal today was $700. But somebody on the computer donated, like, $500 and I went skyrocketing past my goal," he says. "It just blew it open."

For Harrison, that's just icing on the cupcake.

"I hope it can help kids by scientists finding a cure...or what I was thinking, when I grow up, I was going to invent these little nanobots that can swallow them and then they can fight cancer for you with their little mini lasers and stuff," Harrison says as his eyes light up. "And they have this big, big thing that sucks away mucus."

So if you hear a kid ask if you'd like to buy a cupcake or some lemonade, there might be an even sweeter goal behind it.

This is Harrison's second year working with Alex's Lemonade Stand. His class project is due next month, so he'll be accepting contributions until then.
