Woman arrested in station wagon road rage attack | Crime
Palm Harbor, Florida -- A minor traffic incident turned violent in a road rage incident that spanned across two cities and sent two people to the hospital.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says Therese O'Neill was heading west on Tampa Road in Oldsmar in a 1992 Dodge station wagon when she pulled into a lane in front of Bonnie Barkas. Barkas ran into O'Neill's rear bumper, but O'Neill kept driving.
Deputies say Barkas continued to ram her own 2001 Saturn station wagon into O'Neill's car until they came to a red light at the East Lake Road intersection. While at the red light, Barkas tried to push O'Neill's car into the intersection. O'Neill then backed up into Barkas's car and sped away through the red light to try to get away.
Barkas followed her through the light and followed O'Neill as she pulled into Mayfair Place in Palm Harbor. Once in the neighborhood, both women got out of the car and Barkas began punching, kicking and pulling O'Neill's hair.
Deputies say Jill Ann Atwood, who saw the entire incident, followed the women and when she saw them fighting, she got of her car to help O'Neill. Barkas also punched her in eye.
O'Neill, 29, and Atwood, 45, were taken to Mease Countryside Hospital for treatment. Deputies say Atwood suffered a severe eye injury and O'Neill sustained bruises and other non life-threatening injuries.
Barkas, 31, has been charged with Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle and Simple Battery.
